Roger & Wendy
Hi We’re Roger & Wendy
Aquiring the 1957 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud was special for us as we have always loved the craftsmanship, timelessness, and elegance of all things vintage.
The Rolls is a beautiful ride – so comfortable, and fully air-conditioned (a must here in the north).
It’s a great photo prop as well as exquisite wedding transport.
It’s delightful to be part of such a significant event as a Wedding in this truly beautiful part of the world we call home.
Nick Holloway is the chef and co-owner of Nu Nu Restaurant, The Rising Sun Bar and Bistro and Numi Ice Cream and Pantry in Palm Cove, Tropical North Queensland.
Since it’s opening in 2004, Nu Nu has gained the attention of the national media for its exuberant food, professional service and luscious tropical setting. He leads a young, energetic and passionate team of chefs who are dedicated to showcasing the best produce our region has to offer in both new and innovative ways.
Nick had a humble introduction to kitchen life. When washing dishes to earn a living whilst studying Engineering at Melbourne University, he quickly realised he enjoyed the energy of the hospitality industry. He became inspired to use cooking as his creative outlet after seeing Geoff Lindsay speak at a chef’s symposium and applied to cook at Stella, where he would start his apprenticeship. He then had the opportunity to work at Blakes, under Andrew Blake before returning to where it all began with Geoff to open Pearl Restaurant in Richmond. Nick stayed at Pearl for 4 years before getting the urge to make a significant sea change. He purchased a one-way ticket to Cairns and the Nu Nu story began in 2004.
Nick’s own profile has seen him travel all around the world from New Zealand to Dubai cooking at a myriad of events ranging in number from 100 to 1000. His recognised talents have seen him featured as a guest presenter at many high-profile events including the Noosa Food and Wine Festival, Delectable Queensland, Brisbane Masterclass and The Melbourne Food and Wine Festival to name a few. His culinary passion, creative dishes and engaging stories captivate audiences. Nick was featured as a guest chef in Channel 10’s 2015 and 2016 series of Masterchef.
Nu Nu has won numerous awards over the years including “best breakfast” in Queensland, “Regional Restaurant of the Year” nationwide and “Restaurant of the Year” for Queensland.
Nu Nu was recently recognised as Brisbane Times Good Food Guide Regional Restaurant of the Year for 2016.
Nick’s food is a reflection of the vibrant, colourful and dramatic landscape that is Tropical North Queensland.
After completing a Bachelor in Hotel Management at RMIT, I joined Accor at Hotel Sofitel Melbourne and stayed with the company for 15 years. A relocation brought the family to Cairns where we fell in love with the lifestyle and decided to call the tropics home.
A passion for food and the beautiful, abundant produce of far north Queensland lead me to Nu Nu and I’m grateful to be able to work with such a passionate and committed team. The most common feedback we hear from every single wedding we have had the privilege of organising is about the food. I have heard countless times, from guests and couples alike, “that was the best food we have ever had at any wedding”. Perfect, because together with exceptional service from Nu Nu waiters, we pride ourselves on that reputation and we want you and your guests reminiscing about your wedding for years to come.
I have an excellent eye for detail and love organising weddings. I can promise you a service with the highest level of communication, organisation, kindness and understanding; but most of all, an easy, enjoyable and stress free journey to one of the most important and memorable days of your life.
Hi, I’m Matthew. I’m a visual story teller who loves to take unique, dramatic and romantic photos of people in love.
I insist on three things: meeting over coffee, meeting again for an engagement shoot, and turning up 3 hours before your wedding ceremony.
Why? So I’m no longer a stranger.
When it comes to your wedding ceremony and the beautiful portraits that follow, you will feel comfortable and natural.
BRADEN & Rika
Rika and myself came from different parts of the world, not this one either.
I’m from a smallish town in Western Canada, while Rika is from Tokyo, one of the world’s biggest metropolises. I grew up skipping school to head up to the ski hill, while Rika went to cram schools and spent her free time window-shopping.
Rika thoroughly understands how important your wedding is for you, investing so much time, emotions, and money, whether it’s a big party or a small intimate wedding. She sometimes cries in front of a computer editing wedding photos, because she finds weddings to be so loving and moving. I, on the other hand, don’t get so emotional through lenses, however, I stay professional, am always looking for great angles, good natural light, and artistic compositions.
Rika does most of the accounting stuff and back-end of things, while I snap and shoot and meet clients. We have both lived in a few foreign countries, and we both speak foreign languages. One day we realized that we make a fantastic team. After knowing each other for years, we got married, had babies, and now we have our little piece of domestic bliss here in the Far North. Ahhhhhhhh.
WHAT I DO ON YOUR BIG DAY & WHAT I WANT YOU TO DO ON YOUR BIG DAY
My approach to working with you on your wedding day is to make it fun and stress free, I’m an easy going, laid back kinda guy. I don’t like to give you any pressure, so I let you just be yourselves, while I often stand back and snap away. Sometimes I see something I want to do and I’ll offer some directions, crack a few jokes or just let you guys have a quiet moment.
I know what’s happening and when it should be happening, so use my experience and let me keep track of the time, have another glass of wine, smile and laugh a lot, and enjoy:)
One thing you must know while planning a wedding: You need to get on well with whoever you hire as your photographer! It’s a pretty intimate thing taking photos at your wedding, and the person who you will be hanging out with all day is …your photographer.
From our first contact we make everything easy for yourselves. In fact, we try to make the whole process as simple and easy as possible for you so that your wedding will be an enjoyable day that holds only fond memories for many years to come for both of you.
Hello! I’m Steph…
I am a mummy of a delightful chap named Bailey; he’s my inspiration. My partner in crime, Jason, has been a huge support from the very beginning…I’m a bit of a dreamer you see, always away with the fairies and he’s the brains behind the scenes…we’re quite the team!
I spent my life until I was 18 in England, where my parents filled my life with travel, musicals, troll dolls and we all lived in a pink house. When I emigrated to Australia, Jason whisked me off for a 4 year adventure in a Desert community and then East Arnhem Land. Our new adoptive family showed us their Country, how Roo Tails don’t taste too bad and how good it feels to watch your child dance free through the red dust with his beautiful friends. We even had a pet Joey called Roopert!
It was in the desert, surrounded by beautiful faces, that I was inspired to start taking photo’s. It seems now that all these elements that have infused my life have led me to have such a passion for music, colour, travel and telling people’s stories.
I see the world differently, and I see into the heart of people: I think my photography reflects this and I look forward to telling your story.
